1. Overview

AskAI is Spendflo's intelligent contract assistant that lets you ask plain-language questions about your agreements and get accurate, evidence-backed answers — instantly. Instead of manually searching through pages of contract text, you can simply type a question and AskAI will locate the relevant clause, surface the exact excerpt, and tell you precisely what the agreement says.

AskAI is built for legal and commercial questions where precision matters. It works across three areas:

In-Document Q&A	Ask questions about a single open agreement and its related documents (amendments, order forms, etc.).
Repository Discovery	Search across all or a selected set of agreements to find contracts that match a specific condition or contain a particular clause.

AskAI is designed to be honest above all else. When information is not present in a contract, it will tell you so clearly — it will never guess, assume, or fill in gaps.

2. Pre-Requisites & Permissions

Before using AskAI, ensure the following conditions are met:

Access Requirements

You must have an active Spendflo account with access to the Agreements module.
AskAI results are governed by your existing document permissions — you will only receive answers for agreements you are authorised to view.
If you do not have access to a specific agreement, it will appear as inaccessible in your results; it will not be silently excluded.

Document Requirements

Agreements must be uploaded and indexed in Spendflo before AskAI can answer questions about them.
For the most accurate answers, ensure that all related documents (amendments, order forms, statements of work) are uploaded and linked to the parent agreement.
Documents that have not been indexed or have processing issues will be flagged clearly in results — AskAI will not attempt to answer based on incomplete document sets.

3. How AskAI Works

3.1 Asking Questions About a Single Agreement

When you have an agreement open in Spendflo, you can use AskAI to ask questions about that specific contract and any documents related to it (such as amendments or order forms).

How to use it:

Open any agreement in Spendflo.
Click the AskAI panel or chat input.
Type your question in plain language and press Enter.
AskAI returns an answer with a citation — the exact section and text from the agreement that supports the answer.

Example questions you can ask:

"What is the termination notice period?"
"Does this agreement auto-renew?"
"What is the liability cap?"
"Who is responsible for data ownership?"
"What is the governing law?"

What AskAI will return:

Found	The answer with the exact clause cited, including the section reference and a verbatim excerpt from the document.
Not Found	A clear statement that the agreement does not specify the requested information. No guesses are made.
Conflict Detected	If related documents contain conflicting clauses (e.g., the MSA says 60 days but an Order Form says 30 days), AskAI will surface both and flag the conflict for your review.
Error	If a document could not be processed or a related file is missing, AskAI will tell you what it could not access rather than providing an incomplete answer.

? How amendments are handled: If an amendment modifies a clause in the base agreement, AskAI will always use the most recent amendment as the authoritative answer and cite the amendment — not the outdated base clause.

3.2 Discovering Contracts Across Your Repository

Repository Discovery lets you ask questions across multiple agreements at once. This is useful for tasks like finding all contracts that mention GDPR, identifying agreements that auto-renew, or listing renewal notice periods across your vendor portfolio.

How to use it:

Navigate to the AskAI home page (first screen after login).
Select Contract Discovery Agent from the available options.
Set your scope — choose All Contracts or select specific agreements. Optionally filter by document type.
Type your question and submit.
Results are returned in a table — one row per agreement — showing the finding, supporting evidence, and a confidence level.

Example questions for repository discovery:

"Which agreements mention GDPR?"
"Find contracts with a liability cap under $100,000."
"Which agreements have a termination notice period greater than 60 days?"
"Show the renewal notice period for each contract."
"Which contracts do not include a limitation of liability clause?"

Understanding your results:

FOUND	The clause or condition was identified. An evidence snippet and document location are shown.
NOT FOUND	The clause does not exist in that agreement. No evidence is fabricated.
REVIEW REQUIRED	The result needs your attention — for example, conflicting clauses were found, a referenced exhibit is missing, or the language is ambiguous.
ERROR	The agreement could not be processed (e.g., document not indexed, access denied, or parsing issue). A reason is always provided.

? For large repositories: When running discovery across many agreements, the search may run as a background job. You can leave the page and return to view results when complete.

3.3 Launching Discovery from the Agreements List

You can start a discovery session directly from the Agreements List view without navigating away.

How to use it:

Go to the Agreements List in Spendflo.
Apply any filters you need (e.g., by vendor, contract type, or status), or select specific rows.
Click "Analyze with AI".
You will be taken to the AskAI discovery page with your selected or filtered contracts pre-loaded as the scope.
Type your question and run the analysis.

Scope behaviour:

If you have selected specific rows, only those agreements are analysed.
If you have active filters but no selection, the filtered set is used.
If neither, all contracts are included and a confirmation is shown.

? The scope is always shown clearly before you run — you will always know exactly which contracts are being analysed.
