Overriding the Spend Allocation logic

Overview

You have the flexibility to modify the spend distribution logic for both Headcount-based and Manual Spend allocation at the product level. We offer this option to accommodate the diverse spend distribution practices that organizations adopt for various products.


For instance, if you typically use Manual Spend distribution, which distributes the spend among departments equally regardless of number of users in the team, but wish to make an exception for a specific app, such as Jira, you can do so by customizing the spend allocation for that particular app.


Let's take a look at how you can do it


For Headcount-based Spend Allocation


If you've selected the Headcount-based spend allocation method, the system will automatically distribute the expenses of an app according to the number of users in each team. To customize this allocation for a specific product, please follow these steps:


1. Go to the product you wish to customize the allocation for and locate the Teams option in the Overview section; you'll see an option to Edit Teams & Allocation; click on it



2. A slide will appear where you'll see the Headcount-based allocation pre-selected; you can click on +Add a Team to add teams for spend allocation



3. Select the team that needs to be added for spend allocation. You can add multiple teams, and automatically, the spend ratio will pop up based on users. Click save, and the changes will be reflected.



For Manual Spend Allocation


You can override the logic of equal distribution of spend on a product level for Manual Spend Allocation. We provide an option for you to give us the ratio in which you want the spend to be split between teams. To customize this allocation for a specific product, please follow these steps:


1. Go to the product you wish to customize the allocation for and locate the Teams option on the Overview section; you'll see an option to Edit Teams & Allocation; click on it



2. A slide will appear where the manual method will be auto-selected; you can click on +Add a Team at the bottom 



3. After clicking on add a team, you'll get an option to select teams from the drop-down and add the ratio in which you want the spend to be distributed. You can select multiple teams here and add their share of the ratio. This action will override the equal distribution, and only the teams that you select with the ratios will have the spend allocated.
